Comparing fractions

When considering the two fractions $\frac{3}{5}$ and $\frac{2}{3}$, which fraction is bigger? How can you tell?

One way to compare these two fractions is to find a common denominator and then compare the numerators.

$$\frac{3}{5}\,=\,\frac{9}{15}$$

$$\frac{2}{3}\,=\,\frac{10}{15}$$

Since it is easy to see that $\frac{9}{15}\,<\,\frac{10}{15}$, then we know that

$$\frac{3}{5}\,<\,\frac{2}{3}$$
